My pots reflect the celebration of many aspects of the naturalsurroundings where I live, particularly the bush-clad Waitakere Ranges and the nearby beaches of West Auckland.
The universal patterns of nature are always in my head when I am working and the carved, imprinted and pierced designs on the clay surface are the result. These are then accentuated by various glaze techniques learned over 30 years of making pots.
The porcelain clay I use is a dense, white clay which can be worked into more delicate and finer pottery forms (often with translucent qualities) when high-fired.
It is very satisfying when all the different aspects of making the work come together to give a unique and special finished effect.
