JAN COCKELL
Jan is an experienced potter who is known for her beautiful handcrafted porcelain.
She lives in the bush-clad Waitakere Ranges and her pots reflect the celebration of many aspects of the natural surroundings in which she lives.
The universal patterns of pattern are always in her head when she is working and the carved, imprinted and pierced designs on the clay surface are the result. These are then accentuated by various glazing techniques learned over 30 years of making pots. The porcelain clay she uses is dense, white clay which can be fired into more delicate and finer pottery forms.
