"Understanding the clay, rocks and metamorphism. It's a kind of alchemy in painting as well. This is a really important point, when people ask, "what is it you put into your paintings?" I tell them you've got to dig so deep in yourself and be the alchemist, and it's dangerous. I say; if you go down this path, you've got to be tough. It's got to mean something. You have to feel something.

I'll carry on painting this landscape and mining it for it's visual gold for a long while yet. I would happily fill the gallery many times over"
