David Murray is Auckland born and raised and is of Cook Island European decent.
A house painter by trade, he is a self-taught outsider artist. He is more interested in abstract forms and colour that are more therapeutic and freer flowing than any conceptual preconceived ideas. David allows colours to evolve and figures and shapes to appear in his work.
He likes to use art as a form of free expression, which differs from the constraints of house painting with the monotonous straight lines of beige and grey on villas.
David loves to use vibrant colour, the colours of the Pacific on a bright clear day. He also likes the idea of recycling waste and found materials from builders skips to bring life to materials destined for landfill.
