Su McPherson
Mixed Media & Textile Artist
Su McPherson is an Auckland craft artist and has been supplying galleries and shops with her dolls throughout New Zealand. As a child Su was lucky to be taught and master traditional skills of crochet, knitting and sewing, and has built an interest of craft art, learning Taniko and flax weaving, basket making, spinning, weaving and natural dying.
Su spent one year at Hungry Creek doing Art and Craft jewellery making and a number of years at Art Station in Auckland where Domestic Craft meets Contemporary Art. She has exhibited in a diverse range of group shows over the years and enjoys collaborating with other artists.
"It is very therapeutic and rewarding making these little dolls using a humble domestic old-fashioned peg". It is with passion for domestic craft, New Zealand and Pacific art and recycling that translates into her peg doll making. Su's intention with the dolls is to celebrate both New Zealand and Pacific culture.
